Free guide to design and installation of Sliding Wardrobes
Ideal conditions
Simplest application of sliding wardrobe is dedicate a part of the room and build wardrobes floor to ceiling and wall to wall.
This is quite easy job for installer and is one of the advantages of bespoke sliding wardrobe making the most of the space and money available.
Wardrobe of simplified construction
In this case there is no base, back or ceiling panels and only partitions to divide interior space are used. Combining two floor to ceiling and simplified construction it would be quickest to build and least materials used. Simplified construction other words when no base, back or ceiling panels. This type of construction requires walls to have good non marking paint finish.
However above methods require reasonably plumb walls and level floor and ceiling. It is because sliding door tracks and linings are fixed straight to the ceiling, floor and walls. Doors can be adjusted to take some irregularities but being too much out of level will cause doors slide to descending side or doors will be impossible to adjust to close the gap between lining and the door.
Problems and solutions
Above case mainly applies to new built properties. Most of London buildings have their character caused by :
• Building subsidence causing unplumb walls and floors going out of level.
• Architectural details architraves, skirting, dado and picture rails and cornices.
Other obstructions:
• Structural elements such as chimney breast , columns, boxed plumbing, boilers, pipes etc can get in a way and reduce useful space.
Sometimes- especially replacing old units with new wardrobes uncarpeted unsightly floor is uncovered in this case floor covering panel is desirable.
In such non ideal situations where we have obstructions such as cornices, skirting, dado rails.
These are usually solved either cutting them out and squaring the opening or scribing infill panels around the obstacles. Depending on complexity it will add few hours to installation time. Non level walls, floors and ceiling are solved same way with help of infill panels (bottom panel called plinth or kickboard). Irregularities are scribed/cut to infill panels to achieve square and level opening.
We recognize that each space and personal storage requirements are individual therefore they need personalized solution. We are here to share our experience with you.
